  • Purdue OWL is a writing tool that is part of Purdue University. The resources in Purdue OWL help with areas of academic writing such as citations, formatting according to writing type (APA, MLA, Chicago, etc) and also gives directions on how to write both academically and when job searching. Purdue OWL offers help for individuals who have English as their second language.

  • YouTube EDU is a great tool for visual learners. YouTube EDU gives students access to thousands of educational videos over a wide variety of topics, including crash courses on courses, tips for productively studying at home, and other videos like fitness, cooking and diy.

  • CrashCourse is a YouTube channel that offers condensed overviews of course main topics and ideas. Breaking down the topic to its base components and expanding from there, CrashCourse explains even the most complicated topics and makes them easier to understand in a short period of time.

  • Do not need to log in/ make an account. If you go to the top left of the page and click on the courses drop-down, there are a large variety for all leaning levels and class types. 

  • Khan Academy goes into depth on specific topics, explaining further and in a different way than the teacher may be, by providing simple examples that can show students how to figure out specific questions or units they may be struggling with. Khan Academy also has ‘test prep’, although the website is based in the United States, meaning that the test prep is more directed towards the LSAT and SAT exams; although there is still much crossover in the curriculum and can prove to be helpful in whichever way it is used by students.

  • CSML has resources for students with focus on mental health, it includes information on mental health, signs of mental health issues or illness, and informative videos surrounding the topic of mental health in youth and adolescence.

  • The Alex is a youth health center based in Calgary. The center is a safe and supportive place for youth ages 12-24 to come and get health and social care from a trustworthy and caring team of doctors, nurses and support workers. They provide a multitude of resources and areas of support outside of mental health as well.

  • The Kids Help Phone is an organization that provides 24/7 free confidential professional online and telephone counselling and volunteer-led, text-based support in English and French to youth across Canada. Kids Help Phone also provides information on how to access community support services for youth.

  • Calm is a website and app that offers calming techniques and meditation guides – covering a multitude of topics such as mindfulness, sleep, and calming.

  • Bullying online chat hotline helps those who are either personally experiencing online bullying or knows of someone who is experiencing online bullying and provides a space to confidentially talk with trained counsellors.

  • The Addiction Help Line is a 24 hour, 7 day a week confidential service that provides support, information and referrals to Albertans experiencing addiction concerns, including problem gambling.
